MALAYSIAN GOVT-INDUSTRY BODY LAUNCHES INTERNATIONAL ROAD SHOWS
March 26, 2009

A government-backed consortium of Malaysian property developers and agent bodies called Malaysia Property Inc (MPI) is conducting a series of international road shows to promote the country’s residential tourism markets to foreign buyers.

Driven by FIABCI Malaysia (The International Real Estate Association, Malaysia Chapter), in collaboration with the Malaysian government; the Real Estate Housing Developers’ Association (REHDA); Malaysian Institute of Estate Agents (MIEA) and private sector interests, MPI will target the buyer markets of Singapore, the UK, Japan, Hong Kong and several GCC countries.

The group will be kicking off its RM4million (€810,000) programme by attending next month’s A Place in the Sun Live exhibition in London, April 3–5, and property shows in Osaka on April 17-18, and in Tokyo on April 25-26, while working in conjunction with Tourism Malaysia to promote the brand via other media internationally.

“Our target is to attract at least 10,000 foreigners to buy at least RM1mil worth of property each,” said MPI’s chairman Datuk Richard Fong. “We are going on a two-pronged approach to promote local property as an attractive and high return investment destination and as a value-for-money second home choice.”

Road shows aside, the second prong of the campaign will create an online property databank for the country, encouraging developers to meet international standards in quality and by working more closely with the world’s media through PR and advertising campaigns.
